thankful for thanksgiving

thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday. i love getting together with some of the family, and stuffing your bellies full of turkey and pie. this year i went to my grandma and grandpa johnsons for the holiday and it was such a fun time to hang out with some of the uncles and aunts and cousins. we ate tons and tons of food and played phase ten for hours. (which i happened to win!!) and then at midnight i met up with shan and we went to black friday at south town mall. i am still trying to decide if it was worth it, even though i got some awesome deals. the lines were just killer. we got home about six in the morning. next year we aren't going to go right at midnight, the lines are too long until about four in the morning. but it was fun to spend time with shan and buy a few gifts for friends and for myself :) but this thanksgiving i was thinking about what i am grateful for and here is some of the things i came up with...
*my wonderful family
*my friends who are always there for me when i need a shoulder to cry on or someone to laugh with
*power (our power went out for about 18 hours right before the dreaded blizzard, and our house was FREEZING!!)
*the gospel
*my job
*the education i am receiving
*the miracle of forgiveness :)

i know there are many many things i am leaving out of that far too short list, but i hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving!

blowout

yesterday was the blackout game, tcu against utah. i expected it to be a very intense game and so did everyone else in the country. this game was chosen for gameday by espn. i was sooo stoked to go and cheer my utes on. well all my hope went down the drain in about ten minutes when tcu scored 3 touchdowns in the first quarter and utah didn't even come close to scoring. the game ended 47 to 7.. it was sad. the team played so horribly yesterday i dont think they came ready to play against a top ranked team... it was the first time i witnessed the utes lose at home! but oh well.. there is a first for everything. hope the next 3 games go alot better then yesterdays did! GO UTES!

BOO!

i must say i probably had the best halloween of my life this year. my roomies and i celebrated it 2 weekends and it was great! the first weekend there was a crimson nights at the U so we got all ready and went to that together. i needed to go to blue boutique to find some fake eye lashes for our costume party the next night so alex tagged along with me. there we found some awesome non-prescription colored contacts and together we decided that these would be awesome to wear tonight at crimson. so alex bought 4 pairs; one for each of us.
it only took me an hour and a half to get the dang things in my eyes... but once i did i looked SOO creepy. and i loved it



the next night alex got us all tickets to go to a westminster dance party. it was a costume party so we all got real dressed up and went and danced the night away. it was a blast! i cant remember the last time i danced and danced and never stopped until the night ended. there were so many fabulous costumes to look and laugh at and i must say my roomies and i did a good job of dressing up as well. kd, calli, and alli were chip n dale dancers. alex was a cat/mouse..? and i was lady gaga!




the next weekend on friday night we went on a big group date. we went to a haunted corn maze. definitely not very scary but still entertaining..
and lastly HALLOWEEN EVE! since halloween was on a sunday this year all the parties were on saturday. not one of us had a costume planned out until last minute. we rushed around trying to find different costumes at different stores and alex finally says lets go to my parents and look! so we did, and thats where we had the most success. after we were back we got ready and stayed home while we got lots of cute, little trick or treaters. that night we stopped by sigma chi, then went to a party at some loft downtown for about 5 minutes. we then went to our friends house and stayed there for the majority of our night. it was good to see lots of old friends that i hadn't seen in a while. and just a lot of fun.
for this night, calli was a swan, i was a vampire, alex was a little girl, alli was a pirate, and kd was a bird. i wore my red contacts, but in these pictures they look black since alex has such a nice camera it automatically takes out red eye. so next time i wear these contacts i know not to take pictures with alex's camera haha

the other half

today i ran my first half marathon. it was the other half marathon in moab. my goal was to finish the race in under 2 hours and 30 minutes! i beat my goal time by 24 minutes! i was soo impressed. my mom and kayla ran it as well and kayla's goal was to beat my mom! she did it, her time was 2 hours and 29 minutes. my mom's goal was to beat 3 hours and she did it as well! she finished in 2 hours and 45 minutes. it was awesome, i was so proud of all of us. it was all our first time running a half marathon and we all did a lot better then we imagined.
we started out the race at 8:30 and kayla and i stayed together for about the first 2 miles then she fell behind a little bit. every 2 miles there was a water station where the helpers handed us water and gatorade and i never stopped running so i spilled all over myself. the first 7 miles were pretty much flat, but once we hit mile 7 it was hills until the middle of mile 11. it was kinda rough but i only stopped running for about 1 minute and walked up the very last hill. at mile 8 my ankle was KILLING me but i just kinda pretended it wasn't and kept running. the scenery was amazing as well. the sun was hitting the red rock cliffs so perfectly that the colors showed so vividly and we were right next to a river as well so the tree's surrounded it were gorgeous. it really was such a perfect day, the weather never got too hot and it was overcast for a little while so i never felt like i was overheating. i had so much fun doing this half marathon i cant wait to sign up for another one and try to improve my time! i placed 684th out of 2000 runners and 18th in my age category out of 60 females. i was also the 332 female to cross the line and my exact chip time was 2:06:56.

marathon training

i am proud to say that i made it through a half semester class called marathon training. it was rough, but kinda fun at the same time. we timed our miles the first day of class and mine was 7:24. we timed our miles today and it went down to 6:56. whoop! be ready for me half marathon. i'm coming for ya

lake powell trip 2010 with sky high energy

i just returned from a wonderful week vacation from lake powell. it was probably the best lake powell trip i have ever been on for these reasons..

*i almost cleared the wake on the wakeboard the first time ever
*we stayed in a 5 star house boat. it was super nice, had a hot tub on top, 2 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, a slide, a huge kitchen and a flat screen tv for the boys to watch their football.
*i made a lot of new friends
*tube wars were the best thing everrr
*had dance parties with rachel and macy on the top of the houseboat errrday
*we had unlimited amounts of snacks
*we made the most delicious dinners every night
*i learned how to play poker, could have won 260 dollars.. but didnt
*the weather was perfect, not too hot ever!
*didn't have a care in the world for a week
*played the candy bar game and won all sorts of yummy candy
*got to relax in the sun every day all day
*oh and did i mention i only had to pay 10 dollars for gas? and that was it!!

this trip was amazing i was always on the boat watching everyone and their wakeboarding skills or laying out on the top of the houseboat! and if we were sick of the sun we would play cards together as a huge group and it was great. i was laughing the whole time and it was so drama free and i loved every second of it. the only thing that i was a little sad about was there was a full moon, so the stars weren't as incredible as they should be in lake powell.. but it was also cool to have the full moon! soo sad that its over but i am so glad i got the opportunity to go!

labor day 2010

to celebrate the day of no work or school, my mom, step dad, sister and i decided to be a little spontaneous and drive down the lake powell for the weekend. (it took a lot of convincing on my part to my step dad) we had not been for 5 years as a family and i was thinking it was about that time we needed to make a trip down there. so we did :) and once we got down there my step dad was just soo mad we hadn't been down more. lake powell is amazing. we started off by getting on the tube and tubing around the lake. we found a couple cliffs to jump off of and then we found a little island to make our home for the weekend. as soon as we set up camp, we see a man kayaking over to our island and he had been there for like 3 weeks by himself on his houseboat. kayla and i thought it was a little creepy but he seemed like a nice guy. we went to sleep that night just in awe at how beautiful the night sky is. no where else in the world have i seen the stars as gorgeous as they are in lake powell. we woke up early to go wake board and ski while the water was still very calm. after that we went and rented a new tube, for our 16 year old round one died the night before (very happy about it) and we spent a few hours getting whipped around on that. we boated around and found more cliffs to jump off of and went to the marina to get some ice cream. then it started to get very very windy and we headed back to camp only to find all of our stuff wrapped tightly in a rope! tom saw our stuff blowing around so he came and tied it all up for us so it wouldn't blow away. he ended up letting kayla and i use his kayaks to row around because we didn't really have much more to do with the wind being as horrible as it was. he then invited us over for dinner. that night when we were going to sleep, the wind would not let us. i couldn't do anything to escape the windy night so i pretty much stayed up the whole night star gazing. we left early the next morning because it was still windy and we wanted to miss the rush of getting off the lake. it was a fabulous trip and i am so very excited to go back in a couple of weeks with rachel and her friends!

UTES!

Tonight there was a utah football game against pittsburg. i was veryy nervous for it since pitt is ranked higher then the utes and they scored the first touchdown so i was scared! but not long after pitt scored, utes got 2 touchdowns so we were 14 to 7 for a while. Pitt scored a bunch of field goals and got it to 13, 17 and then we scored an awesome touchdown!! so it was 24 to 13. well pitt got right back and scored a touch down and then instead of kicking for the extra point, they went for 2. and made it.. so all they needed was a field goal to tie the game and put us into over time. well they did. and i was pulling my hair out i was so nervous!! luckily, utah had defense first and intercepted the ball and so all we needed was a field goal to win the game! and we did :) it was crazy. sitting in the fourth row is awesome and i love utah football games alot! cant wait for the rest of the season

the start of junior year

SO i started school on tuesday this last week. its going to be a rough semester.. i was enrolled for 17 credits but after my first day i realized that i really need to focus extra hard on my math 4020 class and so i dropped a class and now i have 14 credits. also, i am taking marathon training at 7:00 in the morning. totally not a morning person but oh well its going to be good for me and i need to train for my half marathon which i will be running in october somehow. after the first day of that my calves were SOOO sore!! we ran like 5 miles that day, and we timed our miles and i beat 3 of the 5 guys in my class! i was so proud :)
well on top of school i just moved out.. my friend alex robbins has a house with a few extra bedrooms so calli, kd, and i packed up our bags and moved in today! i am way excited. calli and i have the basement and share a bathroom, alex and kd are up stairs and each have their own bathrooms. i am alot closer to the U and i get to experience living on my own, not in a dorm room ha.
as of right now i am without a bed but tomorrow my mom and i are going to ikea to solve that problem! well i am going to go buy some more hangers!

i love the weekend.

weekends are so much better then weekdays. i love having options of places to go and people to see. and this weekend i didnt work so it was extra better then the weekdays. today i woke up and went to the gym with shan, and then i went and floated the provo river with some of my friends from alpha chi and the U. that was really fun, but it was freezing! i fell out of my tube and it was such a struggle to get back in. after we got back i took a shower and got ready for theron's party! we went over there and it was sooo funny and fun. i always have a good time when i am hanging out with theron and his friends! on thursday we went out to eat with all of them, and i pretended i was their mom and sydney pretended she was the dad and it was the most outrageous dinner ever. i loved every minute of it. well tomorrow i have a homecoming that will probably kill me but if not i will write about it in my next blog! night!!

awful day.

today was not in the cards for me. i went to bed WAYYY later then i should have and woke up with exactly 20 minutes to get to work. thats usually how long it takes me to get there so i grabbed some clothes and a toothbrush and drove there as quickly as possible and made it there by 9:02 and luckily no customers waiting for me at the door. well i felt like i was moving rather slow today, i didnt feel good from being so sleepy and i had cramps. i kept dropping all sorts of cartridges on the ground and spilling ink everywhere and using the wrong ink in cartridges and dealing with extra annoying customers. when 4:00 FINALLY rolled around i was sure i was going to go home and take a nap.. but then i decided that the mall sounded much more appealing. well i guess you could say i am a sucker for the people in the kiosks that wont leave you alone if you give them the slightest bit of interest in their product. all of which are very over priced but i told them i was too poor to buy it so all 3 kiosks i visited knocked the price down over 50%. it was great! i bought a nail buffer thing, which is originally 59 dollars, gave it to me for 24 and threw in a 59 dollar bottle of sea salt just because he liked me :). i bought some make up, she gave me 30 dollars off because i was a student and gave me 2 free brushes and 50 dollars off of some foundation :) and i bought a new straightener since my old one recently broke which was originally 260 and i bought it for 75. i was pleased with all my purchases until i was driving home from the mall and some stupid cop decided to pull me over! ugh i had no clue what i did wrong and i immediately started bawling. he told me i didnt turn into the inside lane and my blinker wasn't on but i totally had my blinker on and i turned into the inside lane, i was just behind an SUV when i turned and as soon as i had made the left turn, i changed lanes into the outside lane for my destination was on the right. i was soooo pissed when he told me and i tried to explain but he was a dick so he wouldnt listen. then of course i couldnt find my insurance card so i got cited for no proof of insurance and for the stupid left turn. i came home, crying the whole way home, and tried all my new make up and straightener and now i feel somewhat better. but still... today sucked. i hate wednesdays always!

summer flu..

as much as i absolutely love summer. i'm bored! it might have something do to with the fact that i am all alone in my huge house and that all i do is work, but i am excited for school to start. (even though i'm positive the first day i go back i will be counting down the days til summer starts once again) i need some sort of hobby, other then fb and sims 3 to keep me entertained during these last few weeks of summer.

i miss my sister. i wish she was back from girls camp so we could do some ridiculous things that somehow we find completely amusing. maybe if she was home i wouldn't be so bored.

i could always go to the gym, or go running to prepare for that half marathon thats coming up in october.. but that takes way too much work.

well i guess i will go try and find something to do... i'm tired after being sick all night because i thought there was a monster in my house.

lagooooooooon!

kayla and i both had a day off this thursday and we wanted to do something really fun! the best idea we had was going to lagoon for the day :) so on thursday morning we woke up early to get all ready and go to the store to buy some stuff. we got to the park wayy early so we waited for like 40 minutes until they opened the gates for us to go inside! it was awesome being there so early because for the first couple hours there were no lines at all! so we hit alot of rides at first. the first one we went on was the samurai and then we went on the rocket. there was this little kid at the rocket who just kept yelling at everyone like "YOUR GOING TO DIE! YOUR GOING TO GET A HEART ATTACK!!" and then he would just laugh sooo hard at kayla and i when our ride was going up. it was so funny but i was going to punch him. then we were going on this ride and as we were getting on our cousin matt and his fiance was getting off so after the ride we ran around trying to go find them. she is a way cute girl, matt and her looked really good together. we then went on rattlesnake rapids and wicked. when we were on wicked this boy steve we met at best buy who helped me out with cameras was there. it was so random to run into him i never thought i would see him again. well we ate arbys, got olden day pictures taken and then went on a bunch of more rides! we wanted to get our faces painted so we did that too! it was awesome i felt like a little kid. we also went into lagoon a beach and went on a few water slides and went around the lazy river a few times. it was a really fun day! i was glad to spend it with my little sis :)

great salt lake!

today kayla and i traveled north to the great salt lake. when we were little we used to go with our family and catch brine shrimp and so we wanted to relive this tradition. it took us like an hour to drive up there and once we got there we had to pay to park since it was a state park. right when i was about to pull away the ranger lady was like OH NO DONT SQUISH THE POOR BEETLE!! so she had to steer my car around this little beetle in the road... haha it was pretty funny. so we drove over to the beach and walked SOO far in this death hot rocky sand. so we were going to the water and the ground just looked completely black, and as we approached the black sand every step we took a million bugs would just fly everywhere cause they were just covering the ground. it was soo gross. we finally got in the water and caught some brine shrimp in our water bottle and then we wanted to see how far we could walk out. so we walked out pretty far and we wanted to try and float so we did.. it was SOO COOL! we just floated and we didnt even have to kick or anything the only gross part was the surface of the water was covered in gross dead bugs and the water was SO salty. after we walked back through the nasty bugs and the hot sand we went to the buffalo island grill and had a buffalo burger. its a hamburger, but made out of buffalo meat! its pretty good. well then we went home. that was our exciting day at the great salt lake :)

weekend

this weekend was a success. friday night there was a rockstar themed party at a frat house at the U. michelle and i got dressed up and headed down there and ended up meeting a bunch of new people and reunited with some old friends. it was very fun, there was a girl though who slipped down the stairs and cut her foot open and she was bleeding everywhere and i was not liking it. but after that we headed over to this boy shawn's and there were a TON of people there that i hadn't seen in years so it was nice to see all of them too. michelle disappeared for a little bit so theron and i ran to go take a nap on the front lawn but the sprinklers started so that was a fail. we ended up sleeping at this girl masi's apartment and went to ihop the next morning and i ate some yummy crapes. then on saturday night michelle and i packed up her car full of blankets, coolers, folding chairs and tents and headed up the canyon to go camping with a bunch of michelle's guy friends. we stayed in this remote spot right next to a river and i ended up being the fire master the whole night! it was awesome i have never made such a good fire, and kept it going all night long. i was very proud. well we slept up there and this morning packed up everything and went back to my mom's house and made bracelets, ate blueberries, and watched movies. it was relaxing and after she left my mom and i went and saw how to train your dragon at the dollar movies. that movie is soo awesome i really want a dragon now. well theron met up with me later in the night and we skyped with kd and calli which was good to see their lovely faces and talk to them. i miss them LOTS! well now to start a long work week over again :( hopefully i can have some fun on the time i have off though!!

fun fun fun in the sun

this past week has been pretty eventful. last saturday my whole family came into salt lake from where they are all from so we could celebrate my grandparents 50th anniversary. what a great time we had at my cabin with all the family. we had a wedding cake for them and it was a sort of surprise and it ended up being completely awesome. then, this tuesday i got off of work early and kayla had the day off so we went with a few people and shot the tube! it was VERY fun like usual. we did something different though and found a rope swing and played on that for a while. it was super exciting. then on wednesday kayla and i traveled down to provo to do a shaving cream slip in slide. that was soo dangerous but soo much fun. we both are bruised up and down and she even got shaving cream in her eye but luckily she can still see out of it! on thursday i had a date with a boy named tyson and i had to plan it. so i went and picked him up and we made chocolate covered strawberries, pretzels and bananas and then went into my backyard and did fireworks. after we layed in my hammock and watched the stars, it was so peaceful and relaxing but a neighbors car alarm kept going off a million times so that was annoying. but for the most part, this week has been great. cant wait for my day off tomorrow >

fourth of july weekend

i had a very eventful fourth of july weekend! this year the fourth fell on a sunday, so being in utah they had to change all the events to before and after the actual day. so this year on the third of july was the big firework show in sugarhouse. those always put on a great show but parking and getting there is insane. on the fourth i went camping with a bunch of friends. we went up to cache county and set up a tent, made hobo dinners on the fire and played in the river, told scary stories and it was a great time. i had to sleep in the back of my friends truck because there wasn't enough room in the tent, so after i went to bed i woke up and had to use the restroom. so when i was walking back to get in the truck, the next campsite had a similar truck and i guess i got in the back of that car with a little kid and fell right back asleep. well about 20 minutes went by and my friends all got worried because i had not gotten back in the truck and they searched for me all over our camp and at the restrooms and in the river, they even had the next campsite looking for me. sure enough the lady was about to put another kid to bed in the back of the truck and she yells over to my friends "I FOUND YOUR FRIEND" ahah they woke me up and i was so embarassed but i went and got in the right truck and went to bed. the next morning we went to a lake and let the dogs play in the water, i went on a hike on some cliffs in my flip flops which wasn't the best idea but it was still fun. i had to leave early though because i was supposed to be at work at 2 so we drove back down and i was about to go into work when i got a call saying that the sugarhouse store was going to be closed for the day!! best news ever. my sister also got called and she didnt have to go in either so we decided to go get some ice cream and shoot the tube! the water was SOOO cold at the tube but it was so fun. i love how intense it is when the blocker woods are about to break and as your going super fast down the tube. after we went home we wanted to relax and watch some bachelorette but my friend shan called and asked us if we wanted to go hot tubbing! and we took up that offer and met up with her and enjoyed some hot tubbing. it was awesome and really funny, we are really good actors. or not so much but it was fun! fourth of july was awesome :) cant wait for the 24th.

texas

i recently just returned from a short trip to abilene, texas! my friend shantel is from there, her mom and dad still live down there so i went with her and her family to this small texas town. they all drove down a few days before me and i flew down and had a flight back as well because there were too many kids to fit me in the car. i didnt mind flying though, salt lake to texas is a longgg drive. well i get on my flight to texas. i checked my baggage and i was super stoked to get there. i had 2 layovers, my first one was in denver (that is a huge airport, i had to take a train to the different gates!) once i got on the plane in denver which was supposed to fly to dallas, it got delayed. i was way nervous that i was going to miss my flight to lubbock but once we got in the air finally they informed us that the flight from dallas to lubbock was delayed as well. that gave me comfort because shan and her mom had to drive a few hours to come and pick me up in lubbock. well once we got to dallas in the air, the weather was horrible we had to fly in circles for an hour before they finally received the news that they shut down the dallas airport so we were not able to land. the captain came on the loud speaker and said that we were going to have to land in a little base in abilene and wait for the weather to clear up in dallas, which could take hours, or even til the next day. well lucky for me, abilene was exactly where i was supposed to end up son once we landed the flight attendants let me out of the plane through a back door and shantel’s sister came and picked me up since shantel was 3 hours away in lubbock. unfortunately my luggage could not be retrieved from the plane since it would be too much of a hassle to find just my suitcase. they assured me that it wouldnt take long for me to get my luggage though since it was going to dallas and they could just send it back to abilene. the next few days i waited for my bags to come and i ended up having to go buy a few new outfits which i wasn’t too sad about… :) and a new swimsuit and some toiletries and things so i could atleast survive til my bags came. it finally came real late saturday night and it was such a relief. while i was there, we went swimming a few times, we went and saw a movie, i tried a real texas bbq restaurant which was delicious. the last full day i was going to be there we planned on going to six flags in dallas. we woke up monday morning and saw that dallas was supposed to be thunderstorms all day long so we drove south to san antonio to the other six flags called FiEsTa TeXaS. this one doesnt have as many huge rollercoasters as the dallas one but with a purchase of a ticket you also get free entry to the water park, which we took full advantage of in the texas heat. around seven we waited in line for a rollercoaster and once i was sitting in the seat, buckled and ready to ride the power went out and they closed down the park for it started pouring and lightening there too. we all walked back to the car and got soaking wet and i played air baseball in the parking lot with the kids for a half hour before we took the long drive back to abilene. it was a very fun day even though it had to end a little early. the next day we went swimming in the morning and had to hurry home so we could drive all the way to lubbock so i could fly home. well once we were there, i found out i missed my flight (way too much bad luck with flights this trip) and we had to drive all the way back and the new plan was they would leave an extra kid with the grandparents and i would take her place in the car for the drive home the next day. so early early on wednesday morning we woke up and drove all the way home. i tried to sleep as much as i could, but it was hard with a car full of kiddies. the drive really wasn’t that bad though and i am very grateful we made it home with no accidents. i am so glad that i got a little break from work and from my life in utah. texas was a fun trip even though it was perfect. good to be home though!
