back home

i have officially moved back to the parents house.

i really was pretty sad to leave the house i've been living at for the past year and a half but it is good to be home. there is actually food in the fridge i can eat and my mom cooks dinner! its amazing.
not to mention its been real good on my sleep schedule.
even though having a bunch of girls around me all the time was a blast - i was sleep deprived all the time and late for work a lot too because i had the hardest time waking up.

and my room got a makeover! i got a brand new comforter for my bed which definitely makes it look better.

who knows how long i will be here for but for now it is treating me well :)

winter winterrr

winter always sneaks up on me way too fast.
this year i thought i would write what i like about winter, to try and trick myself into enjoying it a little better. but to be honest, i just hate the cold. and thats why winter is just not my season of choice!

things i like about winter

*its my birthdayyy
*peppermint flavored everything
*christmas celebrations
*new years celebrations
*having a break from school for a few weeks
*getting to see family
*snowboarding
*having wishful thoughts about snow days (even though they usually never happen)
*hot chocolate all the time
*and that's pretty much it..

things that i do not like about winter

-scraping my car windows every morning
-i get cold faster then you can count to 1
-i hate being cold
-getting out of bed is impossible because i get cold the second i get out
-people's driving skills decrease ALOT during the snowy seasons
-you have to wear a million layers and i still am never warm enough
-not being able to be outside for too long
-you get super pasty
-even when it snows 2 feet, school keeps on going. only in utah...
-people judge me for eating ice cream
-as a person afraid of the dark, i really dislike when it gets dark at 5..
-slipping all over campus every single day..
-winter just NEVER ends!

help?

so i am not really sure how i'm supposed to focus when i will be here (see picture) in a week and a half?? i have 2 online quizzes, and 2 assignments due by sunday, and the week i am gone i have a huge project and an online exam that i MUST finish before i leave on the cruise in one week..
i seriously need help getting motivated because thinking about doing homework when i have a cruise on my mind is VERY difficult.
well.. i'm sure once i have barely any time left to finish all this school work crap i will find the motivation to do it!
procrastination at its finest :)

halloween half marathon

WOW!!
i am actually not dead.. which is surprising after running 3 races in 2 weeks. but i definitely am sore and my body is just drained. i guess i had to expect that though..
well the halloween half was in provo and we decided to get a real nice suite at super 8 in provo so we didn't have to make the long drive to cougar-town the morning of the race. (great idea on my mom's part!)
kayla and i woke up about 4:30 to start doing our ZOMBIE make up! good thing we did too, cause it took a while to get ready. there were buses that were driving runners to the start line and we got to the mall just as the last bus of a group was leaving. So we sat and waited in line for over an hour just for the buses to come and get us. And let me tell you, it was freaking freezing! kayla and i didn't really prepare for anything but the run.. haha figures. once we finally got up to the top of the canyon we only had another hour wait til the race started and luckily there was a giant heated tent for the runners to wait in so we didn't all freeze to death. some people had some pretty creative costumes i was very impressed!
well finally 9:00 came around and so we got ready to start and off we ran. for 13.1 miles. ugh!!
i was frozen for probably the first half of it but i warmed up and was very grateful i didn't have a million layers on while i was running because i got pretty hot.
for the moab half marathon my goal was to finish the race in under 2 hours.. which didn't happen.
at this race, they had pacers that were holding up signs the whole run that said approximately when they were going to finish. I tried to stay ahead of the 2:00 pace man the whole time just so i could ensure to finish this race by my goal time! there was one point at mile 11 where i just had to walk for a minute or two and i told myself i will walk til i get to that pole up ahead, well right when i started walking the 2:00 pacer guy ran past me and i just had to start right back up!
i crossed the finish line probably 5 seconds after him but i didn't look at the timer so i had no idea what my time was!
once they posted the results i stumbled over and saw my time was 1:59:24!! I FINISHED IN UNDER 2 HOURS!! i was so happy that i beat my goal time and on my third race in two weeks!
it was such a great feeling to accomplish something like that.
i am super glad to be done with races for a little while ha my body needs to recoop and maybe in a few months i will be ready for a few more!
here's a picture of kayla and i before the race :)

RAGNAR LAS VEGAS

my second race of this month is over and done. but it sure was a lot of fun.
ha what if i rhymed the whole blog post??
dont worry i will try my best not to turn into a ghost
okay just kidding.
but really i finished ragnar!!
it was a lot of fun :) the team name was sweaty wedgies and i was on a team with 11 boys. fun for me right? wrong. i got picked on the entire time. i dont know why people think i'm such an easy target?!
we drove down to mesquite on thursday night and woke up extra early so we could hit the grocery store and make our way to the start line. i was runner 5 in van one - so i had a few hours of waiting before i actually got to run. but by the time i did get to run my first leg WOW it was sure hot outside. it was close to 90 degrees and my run was basically a ton of steep uphill. i finished though and passed the baton to the next contestant in our van and at our first exchange we actually were at a pool and hot tub so that was amazing.
my second and third legs were during the dark hours of the night which makes it a lot easier to run - and you cant tell where you are going so that makes it great!
after all my runs i seriously felt fine, i had no pains in my ankles or hips and i was super stoked about that. maybe the moab race was just not a good day for me..
my van got about 2.5 hours of sleep during the night and tried to get more while waiting at the finish line but there was a dang car alarm going off and i swear it never stopped.
sweaty wedgies crossed the finish line in about 27 hours - we placed tenth in men's division and 50th overall out of 477 teams! we did so well and i am way excited about it .
because i ran the ragnar in utah i got a saints and sinners medal, and because i ran the ragnar in arizona and vegas i got a deuces wild medal. plus the medal for finishing the vegas one! so i left vegas with 3 stinking cool medals to come show off at home.
for registering for the race early we got 2 free rooms to new york new york hotel and casino on the strip in vegas! we were all super sleepy though so we passed out about 10:00!
overall i had a way fun time at ragnar las vegas. i am not sure when the next ragnar is that i am going to do but i sure hope it's soon because these races are such a great time!
here are some shots from the race :)

now only one more race to go and i am done with my death two weeks! my goal is still under two hours so WISH ME LUCK!!

one down

i successfully finished one of my half marathons of the month.

the other half in moab was ran and now i ONLY have one ragnar and one more half marathon to go.
seriously... what was i thinking?!?

but anyways the other half is a tough race. its 7 miles of pure flat (which isn't so bad) and then the second you hit mile 7 it is straight up hill and very little downhill for 5 in a half miles. talk about a pace killer. i felt like i was doing SOO well through mile 6, but then my ankle started hurting and once i got to the hills i wasn't doing so great. i had to walk more then i have had to walk in a race before and it got me a little discouraged.
once i got to mile ten, my hip also started hurting. i haven't had any injuries or problems while running before so i dont understand what happened with this race i just pray that it gets fixed in 4 days before my ragnar in vegas!
the last mile is half downhill and half flat (which is the worst part) and by the time i hit the finish line i was definitely done. there was no way i could have taken much more running and i finished at a whopping 2 hours and 12 minutes. which honestly is nothing to be ashamed of at all - but i trained very hard for this race (harder then any other races) and its my worst time. but i am just happy i finished, all my family members finished and we all got to experience this together and spend time with each other. it was a great little trip and i am grateful for the experience - i just hope my next two races will show that i trained a little better haha.
here are the stats from the family
brad - came through at 1:46
me - 2:12
mom - 2:38 (her best time)
kayla - 2:50
kevin 3:07

my mom was the only one happy with her time ha - but it just shows that this race is not an easy one. if you are looking to do a half marathon, this one is absolutely beautiful but very very hard. not for someone who hasn't trained.

well i will post more about the next two races coming up and here are some pictures from the race :)

the whole crew after we crossed the finish line!

my sister and i matched our outfits again! just like last year :)

at the finish line waiting for the others to cross!

the first two finished now waiting for everyone else to come through!

nice knowing you

october will be my death month, i am sure of it.
on october 16 i have a half marathon in moab - a lot of my family is going to do it as well so that should be a lot of fun. but then 5 days later i am heading down to vegas to do a ragnar. yes i always have a great time doing ragnars but less then a week after i run a half marathon?? am i insane?? probably.
i wish i was finished.
after the ragnar exactly a week after i run another half marathon! luckily this halloween half is mostly down hill but still its going to be rough and most likely will just kill me dead.
AHH what am i thinking??

a long ramble about technology

so this semester in school i have a class called "technology in classrooms"
we have been learning a lot about how to incorporate the use of technology in your classroom (fancy that!) because using the correct form of technology can be awesome for helping your students be motivated and actually want to do their homework. and also because it is teaching kids at a young age to use something that they will most likely be using for the rest of their lives with school and even their jobs after they get a degree.
but then it also gets me thinking - is technology taking over our lives so much that it is becoming a bad thing??
honestly.. who doesn't have a facebook page that they check regularly? or a twitter, or a blog, or skype or ANY other kind of social networking site.
personally i am a huge fan of social networking - it keeps me updated on friends that i might not be able to see all the time and lets me tell people who want to know exactly how i am doing. and to be honest, i check it a few times a day just because i'm bored or have nothing better to do. or have everything better to do i just am checking facebook to procrastinate what i DONT want to do.
lets think about this a minute though, people can spend hours and hours in one day just on a social networking site. i am positive they have plenty of other things they could possibly be doing that would probably have much more significance but they spend their time facing a computer. is this ruining the way people talk to other people?? are we losing our real social skills because we spend all our time looking at other people's profiles? some people i definitely think overuse these sites and it can cause them to fail in class, and also socially.
in class we learned about how technology can be a big downfall to learning and how it can make students exceed.
i'll give you those examples just because i feel like it
so at MIT all the students there are very technology smart. they sit on their computers/phones all day long and do many different things at once using technology. some of the professors were starting to get the feeling that they were not learning as well as they could and so they did a study and researched a few of the students from MIT. they timed them while multitasking, and found out how long it took them to finish one or more of the things they needed to finished and then how they comprehended it. then they timed them doing one task at a time and checked the comprehension on that. it was proven that even though they are doing multiple tasks at the same time, it overall took them longer to finish it because they would lose their train of thought and they didn't comprehend it as well as they did when they just did one task at a time. is technology being overused at that school?? do the students need to tone it down a little?
the other example was about an elementary school in new york where the average of the students was doing horribly in everything. grades, participation, fights, and even showing up to class. someone decided to provide each student with a laptop and since then there has been a significant change in all of it. the average of the schools grades have gone way up and fighting has gone down, showing up to class has gone way way up and everything about that school has just turned around. the students love using their laptops to learn and it has helped them in every way. is this something we should do for every elementary or is teaching all together going to change because of this?
as a student in college, you would not be able to pass a class without the use of a computer and the internet. most of the assignments are due online (which is great for going green) and i even have a textbook for one of my classes that i have to access through the internet. luckily the school library provides us with many great computers to use for the people who do not have one at their home.
there are also tons of classes that are offered online only. meaning all of your learning is done from your computer, you do not ever attend a classroom or even meet your teacher. is this a better way to learn then going to a classroom and hearing the information? i have been enrolled in two online classes so far and only because i have no room in my schedule to take the actual class during the day. i definitely feel that online classes are a less-effective way of learning. i can read things and they can go into my brain and try and process, but it is always much easier for me if i have a teacher there explaining everything to me.
anyone who has a smart phone has access to the internet at all times. how many times have you been out to dinner with your friends and each one of you is on your phone texting or browsing or playing a game on your phones?? it has happend to me numerous times and usually someone says something we all laugh and continue on with our phone business. it is also crazy to me to think that little kids have nicer phones then i do and are spending a good portion of their day on their phone.
i didn't get my own cell phone til after i was in high school and then i didn't get texting for a year after that. when i see little kids with smart phones, all i want to do is throw it in a lake and say go play outside or do something else!! if you spend this much time now using technology what does your future look like?
technology can really be an awesome awesome thing but there are parts of me that believe it is taking over too much of our lives. we need to go outside and enjoy the fresh air a little more. spend less time in front of a computer screen and live our life better!

autumn

well now that my favorite season is over i'm starting to have withdrawals from the pools and the snow cones. every year i dread when school starts because it just means that the weather is going to get COLD and i truly hate the cold more then anything. scraping my windows in the morning, having to wear a thousand layers and still not being warm enough while walking around campus - its just not really my thing.
however, today i was thinking about all the marvelous things that i can do during this lovely fall season and now its making this season seem a little better then i thought!
with fall comes a new semester - something that we most of the time don't look forward to but this year i really was excited to start school. i'm getting close to graduating and all my classes this semester are ones that i am finding to be very interesting and so its made it a lot easier.
with fall comes school shopping - does this really need any explanation other then getting new clothes always always makes you feel better??
with fall comes the fair - i absolutely love going to the fair. everything about it too. the animals, the rides, the games, the funnel cakes, the shops. the fair can be fun at any age and i want to make sure and at least go a few times this year.
with fall comes the changing of the leaves - even though i am totally a summer girl, i can't deny that the fall time is sure beautiful with all the different color leaves and being able to look into the mountains to see all the trees changing colors is a very wonderful site.
with fall comes football games - i am a big fan of utah football and i have season tickets as a muss member! i love dressing up in red, going to the games and cheering my team on. win or lose i still have a blast
with fall comes my races - i run a half marathon on october 16 and then a ragnar on october 21. i am currently taking a marathon training class to help me get ready to run my little heart out!
with fall comes haunted houses and halloween - with halloween being one of my favorite holidays, i get very excited for all the festivities that come with it! corn mazes, haunted houses and dressing up are all some of the most fun you can have! still trying to decide what i should be this year! any fun ideas?? throw them this way :)
with fall comes making new friends - because of all my new classes with all different people, you are always bound to creating some new friendships with the people you work with in class.
with fall comes pumpkins - pumpkins to carve, pumpkins to decorate, pumpkin seeds to eat and pumpkin flavored everything! i always enjoy a yummy pumpkin chocolate chip cookie.

i'm going to try very hard this year to enjoy all the other seasons a little more because its no fun dreaming of summer for 9 months out of the year when i could appreciate the whole entire year just as much! :)

to prove to dada that i'm not a fool

you know that saying "you dont realize what you have until you've lost it?"
well i am starting to really believe in that.
i have been attending the university of utah since fall 2008 and i have absolutely loved it. but this last spring i had to take the whole semester off because school is just so dang expensive!
now i'm back at school and i can't believe how happy i am to be back.. usually you get to school and are sooo sick of it and are just ready for summer again but i can honestly say i am stoked to be back in the groove of things and in the right direction to hopefully soon receiving my degree!!
i am excited to get back to the library to do hours and hours of homework because last spring, i didn't get to do that at all. i worked i came home from work and that was my life. its nice to have something to do other then work all day long every single day.
its amazing that one little semester off can completely change my thoughts on how much i like going to school! it is so important to get finish what you started and i hope that i can just push through these next two years so i can graduate.
AND
to top it off i got myself a brand new laptop. this makes school EVEN MORE EXCITING then it already is :)
yipee
probably in about two weeks i will be posting about how much i want school to end.
haha ugh why cant humans ever be satisfied?

impulse buy

so... as i have said in earlier posts i am totally an impulse buyer.
lately my laptop has been making super funny noises and not really been giving me the satisfaction a laptop should give a poor little college student! i felt like i couldn't bring it to class because the noises would disrupt everything. today i did something about it. and purchased a macbook pro! i went to best buy and as soon as i saw it i knew i had found the one. i told the weird man that i wanted the macbook pro and he looked at me like i was crazy (no idea why) and he got me set up and i purchased it!
so far so good too...
i'm obsessed! i still need to figure out exactly how it works but i love the way the keyboard types and the layout of it is starting to get more comfortable to me.
its amazing.
i am so happy that i have something that is top of the notch! i have wanted a macbook for years and i finally got the nicest one on the line.
yay for my new laptop.
can't wait to bring it to school tomorrow and show it off!
:)

dearest summer

as you are coming to an end i guess i should say how great you are. your nights are perfect and swimming in your heat is one of my favorite things in the world. but i am kinda getting excited about school starting back up. i took last spring semester off and so all i have done with my life since december is work work work work work. so having something to do other than work is going to be very nice. but i know as soon as it gets cold, i am going to be wishing for these lazy summer days again.

you always want what you cant have i guess!

the most annoying thing

i have been moved out of my parents house for almost an entire year and it really has been the greatest adventure. i love being on my own, not having to worry about telling people where i have been and when i plan on coming home.
i love having a bunch of girls around me ALL the time for if i ever need someone to talk to or if i ever need opinion on what to wear. (or maybe if i ever need clothes to wear!)
i've truely loved living in this house but the one thing that will get on my nerves every time is when i buy myself food and the roommates steal it.
i even write notes and put them on my shelf PLEASE DO NOT EAT but after so long those notes get over looked and the food goes missing anyways.
it mostly bugs me because no one else really buys food, so i cant share food with them. its mostly just my food that gets taken and then i just have to deal with it and go buy more food that i plan to eat just for me but the whole house gets lucky.
its already been hard living on my own financially and then to buy myself food and not be able to eat it even sucks worse. maybe i'm just selfish but it just is the worst part about living with my best friends. and then of course i cant get mad at them because they are my best friends and its really not the worst thing in the world if all my cereal is gone when i only had one bowl.

oh and then its just as bad at work!! i have a coworker who will just eat everything that i buy. i will put it away and leave it for the next day to eat and it will be gone. i keep yelling at him about it and he always says sorry i just got hungry and i dont have any money - ha we are on the same boat buddy. just stop eating my food!

whatever. i just wish i could have a safe for all my food and i was the only one who knew the code!

boovies. (book + movie)

how do you feel about books being made into movies?

i do not like going to see a movie, and then after watching it realizing that it was a book first, and knowing that it would have been a book i would have particularly enjoyed. i refuse to read a book after i have watched the movie because why waste all the time it takes to read a book when you already know what is going to happen? HOWEVER, i enjoy reading a book and then after i am finished, be able to put all of my imaginative characters into a movie character, see how they are really supposed to be portrayed other then how i thought them up in my own mind. of course the movies are NEVER as good as the book, and it is always frustrating when they change things around and leave out things that you remember from the story but it is always fun to see if maybe you missed something that they put in the movie.

i just have been reading a lot lately since i purchased my barnes and noble nook (which i am obsessed with) and almost every book i have read is in the process of turning into a movie.

i read the hunger games series, i cant wait til that comes out in theaters!
i read water for elephants, this movie came out as soon as i finished the book. (perfect timing?) i think so!
i read the help, which will be on the big screen early august.

and i have read a few other books which are not movies and i haven't seen anything for them to become movies any time soon. which is totally fine!

i dont even really know the meaning of this post i just kinda wanted a moment to ramble about something random. :)

cleaning the room

why is it soooo hard to make yourself clean your room? or your car for that matter. i swear EVERY time i clean my room i say to myself, i'm going to keep it this clean because it feels so much better and i know where things are and i can actually walk around without tripping over something. but then i dont want to hang my clothes back up after i try them on or i get lazy and it stays messy for quite sometime before i can get in the mood (or it gets messy enough) to put away everything.
i wish rooms would automatically clean themselves. like if i put something on the floor, a magical little bird would come and hang everything back up. that would be amazing!!
well enough about how bad i hate cleaning my room.

what not to do

if you one day decide that you REALLY want to go camping...
and you buy a bunch of stuff to cook dinner and make breakfast
collect a bunch of wood and buy a lighter to make a fire
and dont forget those marshmallows that you really want to roast!
you drive up to the campsites and are so excited to spend the evening in the forest with your closest friends and set up that new tent you have been dying to sleep in
and ALL THE CAMPSITES ARE FULL?!!?
even the ones in other canyons, and so you frantically search for somewhere to stay because ALL you have been dreaming of all day is camping
so you try and try to come up with ideas on what to do...
i can tell you what NOT to do.
DO NOT go to lagoon campsite!
it is a huge let down.
we called them, asked if they had any campsites and they said SURE come on up. so we drove all the way to farmington
paid WAY too much to stay the night on some grass
realized they do not have fire pits OR barbeques so we couldn't cook our dinner that we prepared OR roast those yummy little marshmallows
and it was right next to the freeway, so all through the night i was woken up by way to many semi's.
i can honestly say the first camping trip of the season had a lot of potential, but it ended up being an epic fail.
not saying i didn't have fun with everyone i was with, but everything went wrong.
i hope that the rest of the camping trips i have this summer end up better then this one.

its what fun is

My sister and I went to lagoon a couple days ago. I don't think we could have gone on a better day! It was very hot, which meant the wet rides quickly became our favorite, and the lines weren't ever very long! We like to get there right when it opens because we can go on a few rides without having to wait in line AT ALL! Throughout the day it gets busier and busier but right at the first its perfect.

We went on a few rides real quick and then we decided before we got all wet to go get those fun pioneer pictures done. Getting dressed up and taking pictures is one of my favorite things – so these pioneer pictures always make for a fun lagoon day.

After that we kept going and going on rides til we were starving!

I swear every time I go to lagoon, I ALWAYS eat at the arbys they have there. Overpriced, and not as good as a regular arbys, but still enjoyable.

We wanted to let our food settle so we went on the little train that goes through the zoo. There was a turtle swimming in the lake! It was super cute, there was a variety of large cats, large birds, deer, kangaroos, and camels. There was also a sign that read "second largest zoo in Utah!" ha how exciting J

We then went to lagoon a beach, the water park in lagoon. There are not very many slides but my favorite part is always the lazy river. Just laying on your tube going around in circles is so relaxing, and you get tan while doing it! ;)

We went on a lot more rides, went into a few of the gift shops and found a baby bottle (for shan's new little boy that was born this day) ate some corn on the cob, got a free drink, ate ice cream, went back to lagoon a beach because we were so hot, played a game, and had a blast.

I really enjoy going to lagoon, especially with my sister because she is always thinking the same thing as me. now our next fun filled thing is going to be camping, and hopefully Disneyland in the near future!

Here we are on the haunted terror ride. Pretty scary!

At Lagoon a Beach in our rompers!

baby tyson

one of my very best friends in the whole entire world gave birth to a little baby boy this afternoon. his name is tyson, and he is the perfect addition to this family.
i have known shan for almost 4 years, we work together at cartridge world and she is simply wonderful. i can tell her my deepest secrets because i know i can trust her. she is so great to talk to as well, she always has the right things to say. - and she is honestly one of the most genuine and amazing people i know. she is always looking out for other people, making sure they are happy and making sure they know she is thinking about them or that she loves them.
she has been trying to get pregnant for years and after all the trying and the fertility treatments, no baby showed up on her doorstep. she gave away ALL the maternity clothes she had been given, and anything "baby" that were passed down from her sisters. and then it happened! she went to the doctor for some minor little thing, and they told her "well we would like to give you a stronger prescription but it is not safe for pregnant people"
she had NO idea but she had been pregnant for close to 11 weeks!
and today that little baby came :) he was a five weeks early but he seems to be doing well. he is so lucky to have such a wonderful mother - and he better know that his auntie hay hay is going to spoil him and love him so much!! i went to visit him and shan at the hospital tonight but i didn't really get to see him since he is so tiny.
i am so happy for shan and trent and this little miracle that came today!

all dogs go to heaven

in the middle of running the ragnar i received some very sad news.
my grandma and grandpa had just gone out of town for a few days to visit my uncle, and they put their dog, pennie in a kennel while they were gone since no one else lives at their house. pennie got super stressed when they were not there with her, and passed away :(
my grandparents got pennie almost ten years ago right after my puppy died. pennie was the perfect dog for my grandparents. she was always so loving and sweet and very calm when she wanted to be.
about 5 years ago, pennie actually got hit by a car and dragged underneath for 15 feet. it broke both her hips but she was tough and she survived. she was in such good shape too, she was getting white hairs around her face but she didn't seem like she was an old dog at all. i guess she just got scared being away from her owners.
i absolutely loved pennie. she was huge and cuddly and always held my hand. i cant imagine going to visit my grandparents and her not being there :( it breaks my heart that she is gone. and it hurts even more knowing how sad my grandparents are. they loved that dog so much. the only thing that helps me feel somewhat better, is that all dogs go to heaven.

pennie, make sure you go find candie and tell her i love her. i'll miss you a lot :( you were the best dog my grandparents could have gotten.

logan to park city

ragnar: 200 miles of pure running bliss.
12 crazy people
2 vans
and a whole lot of sweating, smelling, cheering, following, baby wipe showers, honey buckets, stopping, going, trying to sleep, failing at sleeping, being super tired, laughing, yelling, decorating the car, keeping track of who you killed, getting sad when you get killed, reading the ragmag, and MUCH MUCH MORE!

i just finished the 2011 wasatch back ragnar. it was definitely very rough but also so so much fun. we ran from the utah state university to a high school in park city. our team was called team ventus. we bought a team from ksl and that was the team name, ragnar would not allow us to change it so we worked with it. we made it into an acronym and this is what we came up with
Very
Excruciating
Nightmare;
To
Us
Sanity
it kinda doesn't make sense but that was the funniest and best i could come up with!
some of the people on our team have a super fast pace, and so we had the latest possible start time. it was not something i was very excited about because it made it seem like we were always in last place. even though we finished it a lot faster then a lot of teams, it felt like we didnt. we started at 2:30 in the afternoon while most teams were starting earlier then 10 in the morning. i kept getting texts from my friends on other teams saying they were done with their certain legs when we hadn't even started running.
but other then that the ragnar was so much fun. we waited and waited for our van 1 to finish their first legs and we were getting anxious and bored. i just wanted to get going! but at about 8 kayla took off running, then passed the baton to me (i ran 3.4 miles my first leg) then i passed the baton to my brother brad. we got through our first legs and stopped at exchange 18 to try and get a little sleep. it was FREEZING and we only had a few hours so it was a little miserable. when we woke up at 4 in the morning we were all a little grumpy i think. kayla took off running once again and i tried to wake myself up while she was on her run. my second leg i ran 7.3 miles. our last runner in our van was really in a lot of pain with his knees, so at the very beginning of his second leg he decided he couldn't run his third leg. so we split up his leg and tried to decide what to do for his third leg. it was 7.2 miles and very hard... our team captain (brian) called his mom who was volunteering and asked her if she could run an easy 4 mile leg for us and she agreed. kayla was supposed to run that one so she said she would run a 7.3 mile run that was pretty much all downhill. and i took the place of the last run. well as soon as kayla started running her knee started acting up, so she had to stop after a mile and a half. brad said he would run the rest but after another mile and a half he was super tired since it was his fourth run. i was very nervous about my 7.2 mile run so brian said he would run that one if i ran the rest of kayla's leg. so i did, it was 4 miles and there was only one large uphill and the rest was down. brian took over the last leg and he did awesome. i cant believe how well he did after running the HARDEST leg of the whole entire ragnar, and then adding a long fourth leg. i was so appreciative of him. after 30 hours team ventus finally crossed the finish line!
it definitely was tough, and i think it helped me push myself harder then i normally would but it was worth it. crossing that finish line with the team just made me feel so accomplished! ragnar is such a hard race and we finished it. i'm so proud of my whole team. i had a blast hanging out with our van all the time and cheering on all the runners. i cant wait for the next ragnar in vegas!

memorial day

this memorial day was the first time i have ever actually done what the point of the holiday is..
usually i am out of town or doing something else on this day that i never have time or remember to visit the graves of my loved ones.
well this memorial day was different. i haven't been out of the house much since my surgery so it was a real good change to go out and visit the cemeteries. my sister and mom and i bought a few flowers and went to my grandma alexander's grave, my grandma hintze's grave and my cousin austin's grave.

it was really nice to see the graves even though cemeteries aren't my first choice of a place to visit.
i enjoyed putting the flowers on the graves; i know that my family members were feeling special up in heaven and loved the beautiful flowers.
it also made me think about all of them a lot and made me miss each one of them.
even though i dont get around much to visit those graves they are special to me. :)
hope everyone had a wonderful memorial day and got around to visit their loved ones who are no longer with us.

sick and tired of being sick and tired.

that saying could not be more true!

i truely am more ready to go back to working every day then i ever have been before. probably because i have spent the last week doing absolutely nothing.
heres what my days have consisted of
-waking up in SO much pain
-force a little something down my throat so i can atleast take my pain pill without being nauceous
-spend an hour drinking half a cup of smoothie
-watch movies
-take a bubble bath
-pain pill wears off so i force more cold liquid down
-watch more tv
-crossword puzzles
-play tiny wings ALOT
-have some much needed visitors come and watch movies with me
-take a pain pill before bed and cringe because i have to start all over.

waking up is really the worst part. my mouth and throat are so dry and in so much pain and it takes so long to swallow my food meaning it takes longer to take the pain pills.

i didn't realize that getting your tonsils out as an adult was 34598 times worse then getting them out as a child.
PLUS i got nose surgery too so that doesn't help with the tonsils healing at all.
blah this is getting super old and all i want is to be completely healed so i can eat normal food and go back to work.
well i'm probably just rambling on because i'm a little spacy from the medicine sooo i'll stop typing now.

i would like to thank my fans

I honestly have the best friends and family in the whole wide world!
I don't know what I would have done this last week without you. You have all truly made me feel better in every way. This surgery was such a scary thing for me and all of you have made it so much easier. I am so lucky to have such amazing and kind people in my life.
Here's a few reasons why this death week has been made better by the people in it,
They...
-catch me when I faint
-drive me places I can't drive on my own
-change the movies for me
-scratch my back
-walk me to the bathroom when I'm too dizzy
-feed me my meds when I'm dying of pain
-bring me all sorts of cold treats and presents
-fill my ice water up
-buy me humidifiers for my room
-tell me they love me CONSTANTLY
-visit me whenever they have spare time

I don't think I can thank any of you enough for this week. I love you sooooo much and if you ever need it I will treat you like royalty too!

the scoop

Today I had my surgery. This has been something I have NOT been looking forward to for the last couple weeks. Well... I did i
I couldn't eat or drink anything after midnight last night so by 11:45 this morning I was very very hungry. We got to the hospital and filled out some forms, i had to give them a sample of my pee but since I hadn't been drinking I had to just pee in some tupper wear at my house and bring it with me. Pretty gnarly.
They put me in this little waiting room, gave me hospital clothes, took my blood pressure and got a little blood sample. Then we just had to wait foreverrr. I was starving and anxious and just wanted to get it over with so after an hour and a half of waiting the doctor finally came and explained everything to us. Then the guy came in who was going to knock me out. That was what I was most worried about because I would be awake for it! I had to use the bathroom again because I was so nervous so I asked him if I could hurry and use it and he said of course. But someone was using it so he decided it would be a great idea to put the IV in before i used the bathroom.
I was tripping because I really hate needles. It was pretty easy though getting the iv it didn't hurt too bad but I was really terrified of the though of it. He said it would be smart to have my mom go to the restroom with me and it really was. While I was sitting on the toilet I fainted! My mom was holding on to me and when I woke up I seriously thought I was already done with the surgery.. but I was just sitting on the toilet Haha. After I was done the man walked me to the surgery room and as we were walking to the room I fainted again! I just really do not like thinking about needles going into my veins. Once I woke up again I was laying in the bed with an oxygen thing over my face and they were telling me to take deep breaths until I got knocked out. That's the last remember until I woke up when it was all over. They fed me some popsicles and were taking care of me for a couple hours and then my mom got to chex me out and now I'm home just trying to relax and keep my throat moist and not touching my nose. I am in quite a bit of pain but I figured that would be the case. I am going to watch some movies now but that's how my little surgery went!

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

2 more days.

i'm freaking out.
i get my surgery in 2 days and i am really starting to stress about it
i have never liked getting shots
or liked thinking about getting shots
ooor liked thinking about any kind of surgery/blood/wound
and i have to get surgery.
IN TWO DAYS!!!
i have been getting anxiety about it and not sleeping at night
i wish i could be knocked out with no IV, and stay asleep for a week while all the pain goes away
and then wake up and be perfectly healed
yipee wouldn't that be the greatest?
i'm done complaining now.

happy birthday collette

it was my good friend collette's twenty-first birthday on saturday so we all celebrated with her! it was a great night and i sure hope she had the best birthday everrr

double trouble

on friday night kayla and i decided to plan a double date for our men.

she wanted to go to a drive-in movie and then i thought it would be fun to cook dinner before. i came up with the idea of attempting to make cafe rio salads so we looked up some recipes online and went to fresh market.

half of the stuff on the recipe called for ingredients that i had never even heard of before. we were at the store almost an hour searching for everything that the recipes called for.

we FINALLY got everything we needed and headed back to my moms house to throw it all together. well we soon realized we had forgotten the lettuce (only the single most important thing for a salad??) so we sent jordan on a journey to grab some for us. he had NO idea where he was going though cause he is not familiar with holladay at all so he was gone a long time ha!

once he got back we were pretty much done cooking so we heated up the tortillas and started chowing down the grub!

and...

it was delicious!! they turned out really good :) i was super impressed with it and our fantastic cooking skills!

we had to hurry and clean up, clean out dicks truck and rush to the drive in to be on time. we filled the truck with blankets and pillows and saw something borrowed and soul surfer.

it was a really really fun night.

to my mom

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!

i cant even begin to express the love that i have for my mom. she is everything to me and more. i honestly do not know what i would do with out her around all the time.

we are super close and i love it. i still call her atleast once a day and she calls me too. we can talk and talk and never run out of things to say. i tell her everything about my life and she (almost) always listens :)

she always is giving me advice and only wants the best for me and for me too be happy. i really do appreciate it so much even though sometimes i dont act like it on the phone.

she truely is just the greatest mom ever. i love her so so very much and i hope to be like her when i'm a mother :)
